Guess Who!

27 May

Oh yes, it’s true!

I’m ready to roll again and this blog is about to make a comeback. I’ve had a lot of life changes in the past few months but things are back to normal – at least somewhat – and I’m ready to share it all with you, my sweet readers. I’m so sorry for the abrupt drop off the map, but for a very long time life was just getting in the way and a little too painful to talk about.

Coming up in the next few days – updates, pictures, funny stories and of course news on my Army!

Stay tuned, it’s about to get real up in here! But before I go…a teaser for what’s to come!

Whine and Roses #5 – Love at Home

5 Feb

Spread love everywhere you go: first of all in your own house. Give love to your children, to your wife or husband, to a next door neighbor… Let no one ever come to you without leaving better and happier. Be the living expression of God’s kindness; kindness in your face, kindness in your eyes, kindness in your smile, kindness in your warm greeting.
 – Mother Teresa

Mother Teresa was a wise woman. The more I read about her, the more I adopt her as my hero. I strive daily to be more like her. This quote is just one example of the wisdom that this woman imparted. The more I think about love, the more I want to share love – to spread it around. What better place to start than at home?

Today for me, here’s what love is:

Love is…a big belly laugh from my little girl who just started making those belly laughs last night.

Love is…my husband putting the kids to bed so that I can sit down and write this blog post.

Love is…kisses from my boys who have the sweetest lips imaginable.

Love is…my oldest son saying (when I commented on how pretty Rosie from Lord of the Rings is) “But she’s not as pretty as you, Mom.”

Love is...kisses from big brothers to little sisters.

Sometimes I think that the love shared at home is the best love of all.

Whine and Roses #3 – Just One of the Things I Love

Feel the Love

1 Feb

“Love is friendship set on fire.” – Jeremy Taylor

This month on Raising an Army I’m going to be doing something  just a little bit different, thanks to my friend Priya over at My Reflections. In February, she devotes the month to “Love Bytes” and so has inspired and challenged me to do the same. Over here, in the spirit of the Army, I will call it “Whine and Roses” – a series of posts dedicated to love – particularly the side that comes with having a house full of children. Since I have a whole lotta love in my heart and am surrounded by love every day of the year, I am fairly certain that I can handle 28 days of sharing a little piece of that love with you all.

As I was looking for a quote to kick off February and the “Whine and Roses” theme, I realized how diverse people’s opinions on what love really is can be. It really made me search within myself for the answer to the question; “What is love, to me?”

This month I’m going to challenge myself to explore that in-depth. Today I’m just going to leave you with some images of what love is to me today. These are some of the roses that offset my whine.

Lots of roses today and no whine…let’s see if that trend carries through for the rest of February. 🙂

Happiness

is a baby smile with a dimple in one cheek! We finally caught one on camera! I would also like to add, for the record that she smiled her first real big smile because my sister was mimicking “The Princess Bride”. We are so proud!

(Sorry for the lack of blogging, but we were neck-deep in my niece’s wedding! As soon as she gives me permission I’ll post wedding pics and details!)
